Going from ordinary to extraordinary performance requires a shift in your thinking and doing. The thoughts you have today and your action have brought everything you have today into your life. But those same thoughts and behaviors are unlikely to get you to the next level of performance and success.

To get to the next level, you must practice next-level thinking and behavior.

We live in a world of thought. Our thoughts create our experiences, and thus, we experience what we think. So then, the quality of our thoughts establishes the quality of our lives.

Eckhart Tolls once said, “If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place.” I believe this mantra is the secret to living a happy, purposeful, and productive life. Get this right, and you’ll realize nothing is standing in your way of living at your highest levels.

Most people never actually listen to their thoughts. But the thoughts that pass through our minds are responsible for almost everything that happens in our lives. They influence our feelings, beliefs, and behavior, affect our actions and reactions and shape our reality.

It’s impossible to listen to all your thoughts. Scientists estimate that we have about 60 thousand thoughts per day. But we can listen to the loud ones.

As your thoughts are, so is your life.

Thoughts are energy. Though subtle and invisible, they affect your reality. But thoughts in and of themselves have no power—it’s when we invest our attention into them, that they appear to be real. And when we engage in specific thinking, emotions are triggered by these thoughts. And it’s the emotions that influence how we act.

Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “All behavior results from the thoughts that preceded it.”

Thoughts can empower you to push yourself past your limits, doubts, and fears and fulfill your potential. Or they can put you in doubt and prevent you from reaching your goals and dreams.

Our thoughts can open doors for us or close them.

In the Wizard Of Oz, when Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow all find the Wizard, Toto rips the curtain to the side, and the Wizard of Oz realizes he’s been revealed. So he tries to disguise his identity by shouting, “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”

Maybe we can take a lesson from the Wizard Of Oz, rip the curtain to the side, and start paying attention to what we’re thinking. Perhaps it is time to begin thinking about what we’re thinking.
